In gathering the botanical data for his PhD, UCT's Brian du Preez clocked up some impressive numbers scouring the Greater Cape Floristic Region’s (GCFR) remote regions: hundreds of kilometres on foot in mountains and kloofs, and by car.

Michael Hlabathe will graduate with his PhD in astrophysics from UCT in July for his investigation into active galactic nuclei. Throughout his academic journey, his passion for his field has led him to reach for the stars.
