The University of Cape Town celebrated spring graduations from Monday, 8 September until Wednesday, 10 September 2025. Ceremonies were livestreamed, and recordings are being posted as soon as possible after the event.

Two PhD students from UCT were part of a team of marine scientists who embarked on an offshore expedition to develop the capacity of young southern African scientists and to collect data in outer shelf and deep-sea habitats.

Professor Res Altwegg from the Department of Statistical Sciences will present his inaugural lecture titled “Adventures in Statistical Ecology” at 17:45 SAST on Thursday, 8 May 2025.

Post-doctoral researchers from departments in the Science faculty will present their work as a poster in a conference style poster session. This event is organised by the Science Faculty Research Committee. Everyone interested is welcome.

The Faculty of Science hosted its annual Distinguished Alumni Lecture on 30 September 2025, honouring two exceptional graduates whose careers reflect UCT’s commitment to advancing science.

UCT recently hosted an event to mark the donation of a facsimile edition of the Flora de la Real Expedición Botánica del Nuevo Reino de Granada (1783–1816) to the Bolus Herbarium.
