David Reby & Livio Favaro from the ENES Lab, University of Lyon/Saint Etienne, France, will present the Department of Biological Sciences seminar with a talk entitled, "Anatomical constraints and vocal communication in birds and mammals"

They will present how the application of the source-filter theory of vocal production has improved our understanding of non-human animal vocal communication. In particular, they will focus on how anatomical constraints can influence body size communication and encoding of acoustic cues to species, sex, and individual identity information in vocal signals. Finally, they will discuss their recent application of the source-filter theory approach and vocal tract modelling techniques to the study of African penguin vocalizations.
