The Department of Chemistry Seminar Programme presents Dr M.M Thackeray, from the Argonne National laboratory, Lemont, USA who will talk on "Looking Back, Looking Forward on the Road to Viable Electrical Energy Storage".  This presentation will be a personal reflection of 40 years in battery research at UCT, CSIR, Oxford University, UK and Argonne National Laboratory, USA.  Highlights of successes, stumbling blocks and failures will be described and a prognosis for future breakthrough technology offered.

Dr Michael Thackeray has made several important contributions to energy storage, inventing and developing new electrode materials for battery systems as well as translating these materials into viable technologies. As a world leader, he has pioneered several major advances in metal oxide electrodes for lithium batteries.
