In May 2024, UCT Council announced the university’s 11th vice-chancellor. Professor Mosa Moshabela, who took office in August, was officially installed on 25 November 2024. A video recording of the ceremony is now available.
Professor Amanda Weltman from the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics will present her inaugural lecture titled “From the Laboratory to the Sky: New Windows on the Universe” at 17:00 SAST on Tuesday, 8 October 2024.
Professor Marcello Vichi from the Department of Oceanography will present his inaugural lecture titled “Fifty degrees of separation: Why Antarctica and the polar regions matter for Afrika” at 17:30 SAST on Monday, 21 October 2024.
Professor Amanda Weltman delivered her inaugural lecture at the UCT. The event took place in the Maths Block’s M304 lecture theatre, an apt location given that this was where Professor Weltman used to lecture first-year students.
Professor Gregory Smith delivered his inaugural lecture titled “The Marriage of Organometallic Chemistry: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue”.
