Rising Star Distinguished Alumni Lecture

The UCT Faculty of Science Rising Star Distinguished Alumni Lectures aim to highlight our outstanding alumni who are making significant contributions in their respective fields.

Iviwe Mtubu's talk is titled "Opening Doors: How My UCT Degree Enabled Diverse Contributions in Geography and Environmental Sciences." In this engaging lecture, he will discuss how his education at UCT has empowered him to explore various fields, from becoming a Candidate Environmental Assessment Practitioner to consulting in geography education and writing. Through this journey, he has contributed to climate education, geography teaching, and interdisciplinary learning.

Pavs Pillay's work centres around promoting sustainable practices and conservation in marine environments. With extensive experience in raising awareness about ocean health, she is dedicated to addressing environmental challenges through innovative solutions. Some of the insights Pavs will be sharing includes how her time at UCT shaped her understanding of the critical state of our oceans and the importance of protecting marine biodiversity. Her talk is titled "Pirates, Pandas, Planet, and Partnerships - Working Towards a Nature positive Future".
