UCT alumnus, Professor Alan R. Kay, a Professor of Biology at the University of Iowa, USA, will present the Department of Chemistry seminar with a talk entitled, “Using chemistry to explore the role of zinc in synaptic transmission”.

 The high concentrations of zinc found in some synaptic terminals in the mammalian brain remains many years after its discovery an enigma. In this seminar I will review work attempting to understand what the role of this zinc might be in synaptic transmission.
