The Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research, will host a presentation by Subbarao Kambhampati from Arizona State University, entitled, "The Rise of Artificial Intelligence & The Challenges of Human-Aware AI".
Short abstract
I will start with a perspective on the status and recent progress in AI, and the heightened public expectations surrounding it, with the aim of separating hype from technical reality. I will discuss critical thresholds still to be crossed for human-level intelligence, with a focus on the need for human-aware AI systems.
Subbarao Kambhampati (Rao) is a professor of Computer Science at Arizona State University. His research focuses on automated planning and decision making, especially in the context of human-aware AI system. He is an award winning teacher and spends significant time pondering the public perceptions and societal impacts of AI. He was an NSF young investigator, and is a fellow of AAAI and AAAS. He served the AI community in multiple roles, including as the program chair for IJCAI 2016 and program c-chair for AAAI 2005. He recently completed his terms as the president of the Association for the Advancement of AI (AAAI), and is now serving as its past president. He is a trustee of teh Partnership for AI.
