Dr Hayley Clements, from Stellenbosch University will present the Department of Biological Sciences seminar with a talk entitled, "Beyond state protected areas:  Private land conservation in southern Africa".

Dr Hayley Clements is a researcher at the Centre for Complex Systems in Transition (CST), Stellenbosch University. Her research focuses on understanding the social-ecological dynamics of southern African conservation systems. Before joining the CST, Hayley completed a PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Cape Town, followed by a postdoc at Monash University, Australia. She was also the inaugural recipient of the Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer Research Grant awarded in 2019. This award seeks to support emerging, African-led, innovative research that will contribute to the advancement of environmental and allied sciences; and address relevant, realworld, African issues of current and future importance.
