Marc Burman, from the ADU will present the Department of Biological Sciences seminar with a talk entitled, "Avian life cycles responding to climate change".

There is an urgent and growing need to explore the mechanisms, rate and scale of ecological responses to climate change and other kinds of global change. Changes in seasonal timing, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, are a complex and important component of climate change, and have caused the timing of life cycles (phenology) to change in many species, sometimes with severe consequences. In this talk I will expand on these topics, dealing also with environmental changes in the Southern Hemisphere. I will give an overview of the findings of my PhD, which dealt with phenological changes in the barn swallow, a long-distance Palearctic-African migrant species. Finally I will present my current research activities and plans
