Mike Spur  of  Derivco will present the Department of Computer Science seminar with a talk entitled, "Animation principles within a interface design as a methodology to surprise, delight, engage users".

Twelve Basic Principles of Animation

Exploring Disney's Twelve Basic Principles of Animation, a set of principles introduced by the Disney animators in their 1981 book The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation. We examine how these principles directly correlate to animation in interface design and the role they play in creating natural, believable movement.

Functional Animation

Taking a look at the different forms of animation that make up a user interface and their purpose. This ranges from

providing users with visual feedback and context to highlighting a product feature to engage users and drivetraffic.

Design, Prototyping and Implementation

From concept to implementation, we look at how to go about adding animation into your projects. We focus on ensuring cohesion between interface and animation as well as the pros and cons of adding animations at different points in your project. We also look to the future of animation as it becomes more prevalent in UI design and the evolving prototyping toolsets.
