Wataru Tokura

Wataru Tokura was born and raised in Japan. He studied ecology and botany at Shinshu University majoring in forestry. Since graduating, he has worked at a wetland education centre in Okinawa and at an environmental consulting firm. He also worked for two years on a bi-lateral exchange in Lochinvar National Park, Zambia, where he initiated a pilot programme to monitor wildlife in the park. Here he experienced the challenging reality facing park managers in Africa, which motivated him to enroll for the conservation biology course, in the hope that it will help him to assist to secure the future of African wildlife. Although he has broad experience in the conservation sector, his main interest remains botany. He is excited to study the CB course, and wants to develop field techniques and knowledge relevant to conservation in an African context. He enjoys hiking and is looking forward to seeing many of the Cape’s unique plants during weekend rambles.
