Kyle grew up on a farm in Worcester until he was 10 years old. Through the many adventures he had with his brother, he developed a love for nature and wildlife. This fascination grew over the years as he moved to the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Having finally settled in Richards Bay, a growing industrial city in northern KZN, he was confronted with scenes of a degraded and polluted environment. A wetland, where he once watched birds, was entirely destroyed to build a storage yard for shipping containers. This only fuelled his desire to become a conservationist. Kyle studied at Rhodes University, completing his BSc in Botany, Entomology and Zoology in 2013 and his Honours in African Vertebrate Biodiversity and Botany in 2014. Most of his projects were based on animal-plant interactions. Apart from further developing his skills as a biologist, Kyle decided to study Conservation Biology to be exposed to unfamiliar modules, including the Social Sciences. He hopes to eventually enter the academic field to conduct original research. Although Kyle is a scientist with a keen interest in ecology, his plan is to apply his work to answering practical conservation-based issues in Africa. When not studying, Kyle enjoys birding, wildlife photography, running, hiking and sleeping.
