Applications for the 2026 intake of the FitzPatrick's prestigious taught MSc programme in Conservation Biology close on 31 August.

Conservation biology is the study of how best to sustain and manage linked systems of people and nature. This field is increasingly important as human impacts on the biosphere become more significant.

The FitzPatrick Institute offers an intensive taught MSc in Conservation Biology for up to 14 students per year.

The aim of the CB MSc programme is to produce graduates with a broad understanding of conservation issues and to provide them with the scientific background and tools to be able to analyse and solve real-world conservation-related problems. A synthetic, holistic approach to problem solving is encouraged, and emphasis is also placed on developing oral and written communication skills. This approach results in graduates who compete successfully in the job market and have a real impact in the field. Students are provided with a broad-based education that will stand them in good stead in Africa and throughout the world.

Course dates for 2026: 12 Jan 2026 – mid-Feb 2027

The course is taught in-person in Cape Town.
