Donation towards Raptor Research by Two Oceans Slope Soarers
In the image on the right, Two Oceans Slope Soarers (TOSS) chairman Kevin Farr (right) hands over a cheque to the Fitz's Research Associate, Dr Rob Simmons (left) to support raptor work at the FitzPatrick Institute. This is the second donation from a club that builds gliders that mimic bird flight and fly unaided except for the expert "steering" by remote control. The small model gliders have the potential to help identify areas where raptors soar and use mountain slopes, and thus areas where the rapidly expanding wind industry should avoid placing wind turbines.
