FitzPatrick Institute 50th Anniversary AGM

On Wednesday 11 August the FitzPatrick Instutute, at UCT, held its 50th Anniversary Annual General Meeting at the Steenberg Golf Estate. The celebration day was started with a morning of presentations and a lunch attended by 104 Fitztitute supporters, colleagues and students. The presentations included “Fifty years of the Institute” by the Director, Professor Phil Hockey, “The genesis, growth and development of the conservation biology programme” by Professor Tim Crowe and “Seabirds and the role of Southern Ocean research at the Institute” by Associate Professor Peter Ryan, as well as an array of seven other talks which reflected the broad scope of research at the Institute. The 50th FitzPatrick Institute Annual Board Meeting was held during the afternoon followed by a special dinner attended by 51 research partners and supporters. We thank the Steenberg Golf Club for hosting this celebratory event which marks the initiation of a new birding relationship between the Steenberg Golf Club and the Institute. We are also grateful for the generous donation of Excelsior wines which were enjoyed at the dinner.
