GLMMs are widely used in ecology and other natural sciences. However, these methods are often not clearly understood by practitioners. This presentation presented by Zaza Ngwenya focuses on fitting GLMMs in R. We look at the important aspects of the process, namely the assumptions of the various models, the model fitting process itself and model diagnostics. Other issues that commonly arise in practice, such as overdispersion in count data, are discussed as well as various solutions that have been suggested to address this problem.
