The UCT Department of Statistical Sciences invites you to attend a three-day, in-person Operations Research (OR) Workshop taking place from 10 to 12 September 2025, from 9am to 4pm each day. The workshop will be held at Hahn 4, PD Hahn Building, Upper Campus, University of Cape Town.
OR is the study of scientific approaches to decision-making. By applying mathematical models, optimisation techniques, and other analytical methods, OR enables a deeper understanding of complex problems and supports the development of effective and practical solutions. The aim of the workshop is to promote the importance and real-world relevance of the OR field. A variety of speakers from academia and industry will present OR-related projects that demonstrate practical applications across different sectors. Each day will feature a different set of speakers, topics, and activities to ensure a diverse and engaging programme (full speaker bios available here).

The event is free of charge, but space is limited. Tea and lunch will be provided on each day of the workshop. Additionally, a daily allowance of R100 will be offered to participants, which will only be granted to those who attend the full three-day programme (i.e. R300 offered on the last day of the workshop).
