Staff Positions

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Cape Town is a research-intensive department with a long-standing leading international reputation in multi-wavelength observational astronomy, particularly in optical and radio astronomy with strong involvement in numerous MeerKAT and SALT science projects. Linked to this, the department is playing a leading role in the development of advanced astronomical data visualization technology and techniques. The Department of Astronomy also has a well-established undergraduate major in astrophysics and hosts one of the nodes of the postgraduate National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme (NASSP)

In General Postdoctoral applications are welcomed throughout the year. Where funding from within the department is available, these positions will be advertised.

However, postdoctoral funding for positions within the department may also be applied for from outside sources:

Process:
- Contact a staff member with whom you would like to do research to discuss possible projects
- Apply to one of the above outside sources for funding with support from the proposed supervisor
