UCT hosts part of the Inter-University Institute for Data Intensive Astronomy, IDIA, a partnership of three South African universities, the University of Cape Town, University of the Western Cape and the University of Pretoria.

IDIA operates the ilifu research cloud infrastructure used primarily by UCT Department of Astronomy to calibrate and analyse data from the MeerKAT radio telescope.
