The Department of Astronomy at the University of Cape Town is a research-intensive department with a long-standing leading international reputation in multi-wavelength observational astronomy, particularly in optical and radio astronomy with strong involvement in numerous MeerKAT and SALT science projects. Linked to this, the department is playing a leading role in the development of advanced astronomical data visualization technology and techniques. The Department of Astronomy also has a well-established undergraduate major in astrophysics and hosts one of the nodes of the postgraduate National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme (NASSP).
