Francisco 'Pachi' Cervantes
Pachi is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology in Spain, where he investigates species range dynamics and the use of dynamic occupancy models. Before moving back to Spain in 2024, he conducted post-doctoral research at UCT: first, at the FitzPatrick Institute investigating movement patterns and distribution of the Cape Vulture, and then, at SEEC in collaboration with SANBI, developing a data pipeline for wetlands and waterbirds (BIRDIE), which focuses on modelling the distribution and population dynamics of this group of birds. His research interest pivots around modelling the dynamics of wildlife population, from individual movement to population abundance and distribution. He has particular interest in those applications that tackle human impacts on biodiversity, using citizen science data, data and model integration, analytical workflows and data pipelines.
