The African Bird Atlas Project (ABAP) is a treasure trove for addressing questions around biogeography, macroecology and conservation of birds. The project collects > 1 million bird occurrence records across Africa and the data collection protocol allows us to estimate species’ occurrence (occupancy) while accounting for the observation process. In this toolbox seminar, I will show how the recently developed R package ABAP can be used to download and handle ABAP data to be subsequently analysed using occupancy models.
