EGS Staff Member Wins UCT Safety Champion Award
The Environmental & Geographical Science (EGS) Department is proud to announce that Sayed Hess, Technical Officer and Fieldwork Specialist, has been awarded UCT’s Safety Champion Award at the university’s inaugural Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) Awards Ceremony.
Hess was recognised for his exceptional leadership in strengthening departmental safety systems — including the safe removal of hazardous waste, the development of standard operating procedures for laboratory work, and the implementation of comprehensive evacuation procedures across EGS. His commitment to improving safety infrastructure and building a culture of accountability has set a commendable standard within the faculty and broader university community.
