Sayed Hess

Sayed Hess is the Technical Officer in the Environmental and Geographical Science Department at the University of Cape Town. He is responsible for the daily operational running of the department, including building access, teaching venue support and management, vehicle rentals, health and safety oversight, website updates, and coordinating the use of laboratories and scientific equipment.
Beyond his technical duties, Sayed actively contributes to academic fieldwork and research. He has served as a research assistant on several interdisciplinary and international projects, including:

The RAIN Project with Jenna University, focusing on sedimentology in remote wilderness lakes;

Collaborative research with a Chinese university on estuarine systems and sediment dynamics in Knysna Lagoon;

Ongoing work with Nanjing University (China) on limnological studies of Zambian lakes and sediment core retrieval.
Sayed’s combined expertise in logistics, technical operations, and field-based environmental research makes him an integral part of the department’s academic and scientific endeavours.
