What does an EGS major involve?

To complete a major in EGS, students must take both first year courses, both second year courses and two third year courses. Students not taking EGS as a major are able to take EGS courses, if they have the pre-requisites.

All students attending courses in EGS are required to participate in lectures, take part in fieldwork arranged during the year, submit assignments and practicals as outlined in course outlines, write tests throughout the semester, and exams at the end of semester. The details of these assessments can be found in the course descriptions in the handbooks here.

What is the application process?

Students do not apply directly to EGS at the undergraduate level. All applications go through the University and need to be submitted online. The online application form, opening and closing dates for application to UCT, as well as information around eligibility criteria and funding can be found here.
