The month of May is designated as Africa Month, with Africa Day being celebrated on the 25th. This is a time to celebrate what it means to be African, to deepen and expand our knowledge and engage in cultural exchange. Africa Month is commemorated widely across the country and university.
The Department of Statistical Sciences hosted an Africa Day lunch on Friday 24 May for staff and postgraduate students. There was a variety of food from the diverse cultures across the African continent and many dressed up for the occasion. It was also a good opportunity to share ideas on the Department's African-based research and teaching, and on what being African means to us personally.
