Siya Hulushe obtained his Doctorate (PhD) in Inorganic Physical Chemistry from Rhodes University, under the academic supervision of Emeritus Associate Professor Gareth M. Watkins. His doctoral research was centred on the rational design and synthesis of advanced ligands, with broad applications in coordination and supramolecular chemistry. His work demonstrated a considerable breadth of interdisciplinary expertise, encompassing host–guest chemistry involving small-molecule encapsulation, as well as functional applications such as chemical sensing, targeted drug delivery systems, gas adsorption and separation technologies, and the development of molecular catalysts. He is presently engaged in a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Cape Town, where his research continues to investigate molecular design and heterogeneous catalysis. Additionally, his current focus includes the capture and catalytic transformation of carbon dioxide (CO₂), thereby contributing to ongoing efforts in materials science aimed at addressing environmental challenges through sustainable and carbon-conscious technologies.
