Ms. Margaret Damilola Olawale is a visiting PhD student from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. Her supervisor in Nigeria is Dr. Clement Tella and she will be conducting research in the Centre for two six month periods in 2016 and 2017 as an affiliate, under the supervision of Prof. Susan Bourne. She is the recipient of a part-time (sandwich) study plan Fellowship from the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), which allows for "postgraduate training fellowships for women scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa and least developed countries at Centres of Excellence in the South Africa". Her project title is "Synthesis, characterization, adsorptive and catalytic properties of metal organic frameworks containing carboxylate ligands".

Laura Greder and Julie Renner from Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie (ENSCMu), Mulhouse, France spent a 2-month internship under the supervision of Dr Clive Oliver as part of their chemical engineering degrees. During this time they managed to work on two projects involving metal-organic frameworks and inclusion chemistry of a large supramolecular host. Laura and Julie also managed to extensively tour South Africa which included, amongst others, trips to Cape Agulhas (the southern-most tip of Africa and according to Laura “real Africa” away from Cape Town),  Durban and the Kruger National park (where they managed to not see a single lion!). We wish Laura and Julie all success with their future academic and personal endeavours.
