Prof. Susan Bourne travelled to Gaborone, Botswana in November 2017 to attend a research workshop as part of a three-way partner collaboration between the Department of Chemistry, UCT, the Department of Chemistry, University of Botswana and the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. She held talks with Dr's Never Tshabang and Florence Nareetsile.
Prof. Mino Caira attended the 5th European Conference on Cyclodextrins (EUROCD2017) in Lisbon, Portugal from the 3 - 6 October 2017.
Prof. Bourne, Ms. Amombo Noa, Ms. Jacky Bouanga Boudiombo and Ms. Dzesse Tekouo attended the 24th Congress and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr24) in Hyderabad, India in August 2017.

Prof. Susan Bourne was invited to the Chemistry Department of Rhodes University in July, in order to deliver the annual Barker Lecture, in memory of Professor Francis Barker and also to give two research lectures to the Chemistry graduate students.
Prof. Mino Caira travelled to Valencia, Spain in June, where he was offered a position as a committee member as well as a plenary speaker at the Global Conference on Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery Systems (PDDS 2017).
Prof. Luigi Nassimbeni travelled to Russia in June to visit Prof. Tatyana Shabatina at the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, to discuss the possibility of a collaboration between the Universities. He then continued on to Kazan, where he attended the 16th International Seminar on Inclusion Compounds (ISIC-16) as well as the 3rd Youth School on Supramolecular and Coordination Chemistry, as an invited speaker.
Prof. Susan Bourne and Dr. Clive Oliver travelled to Hermanus in the Western Cape to attend the South African Chemical Institute Inorganic Conference from 25 - 29 June. Prof. Bourne was a keynote speaker and Dr. Oliver was on the Organising Committee.
Prof. Susan Bourne, who is on sabbatical this year, travelled to Italy in May, to visit Prof. Alessia Bacchi at the University of Parma. She then travelled to Bologna, Spain in June to attend the 9th Convention on Crystal Forms as an invited speaker. From there she flew to Hungary to visit Dr. Petra Bombicz and present a seminar to the Research Centre on Natural Sciences at the Hungarian Academy of Science.
Professors Luigi Nassimbeni, Mino Caira, Susan Bourne and Dr. Clive Oliver formed part of the Local Organising Committee of the 23rd International Conference on Chemistry of the Organic State (ICCOSS XXIII) at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study from 2 - 7 April. The students who attended were Francoise Amombo-Noa, Jacky Bouanga Boudiombo, Nicole Sykes and Terence Noonan, who presented posters, as well as Savannah Zacharias, who presented a talk.
Prof. Mino Caira travelled to Italy in March, to visit Prof. Ferrari at the University of Pavia.
