An article by Dr. Clive Oliver and collaborators has been selected as a “February hot article” for the journal Dalton Transactions. The article reports the synthesis and structural elucidation of a novel copper chiral metal–organic framework, [Cu 4(HL)2(H2O)4(MeO)4] from a tripodal flexible ligand (2 S,2'S,2'S )-2,2′,2′′-(benzenetricarbonyltris(azanediyl))tripropanoic acid (H 3 L). The metal-organic framework features a novel tetranuclear cubane-type secondary building block [Cu 4(MeO)4]4+ and acts as a heterogeneous catalyst for the diastereoselective nitroaldol (Henry) reaction, providing high yields (up to 91%) and good diastereoselectivities under ambient conditions. We congratulate Professor Mino Caira on his retirement in December 2014 and his appointment in 2015, as Senior Research Scholar in the Department of Chemistry. Prof. Caira will continue as our Director in the Centre for Supramolecular Chemistry Research.
Dr. Dyanne Cruickshank has been awarded a 5 year Research Career Award Fellowship in the Chemistry Department, and we welcome her back to the Centre for Supramolecular Chemistry Research. Dr. Cruickshank obtained her PhD at the Centre, under supervision of Prof's. Caira and Bourne and has returned from the University of Bath in the U.K., where she held a Postdoctoral fellowship for 2 years.
