My research focuses on the development and application of statistical methods in biomedical and clinical research. My methodological research encompasses (i) the development of methods for analysing multivariate longitudinal measures data including methods for the handling missing data; (ii) detection of outliers/robust estimation; (iii) survival analysis, (iv) joint analysis of longitudinal data and survival data, accounting for competing or semi-competing risks; (v) models for recurrent events and (vi) design and analysis of clinical trials and meta-analysis. I also have an interest in machine learning methods for health-related data. I am a C1-rated researcher by the NRF.
I am currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Statistical Sciences. I am Associate Editor of Biometrics, Journal of Applied Statistics and South African Medical Journal.
