📊 MASHA at the MaModAfrica Symposium 2025 | Mombasa, Kenya

We are proud to spotlight the participation of the Modelling and Simulation Hub, Africa (MASHA) at the MaModAfrica Symposium 2025 held in Mombasa, Kenya, where modelling experts and stakeholders from across Africa gathered to share insights on malaria control and elimination.

Retselisitsoe Monyake, Software Engineer at MASHA, presented an insightful overview of the Malaria Modelling and Analytics: Leaders in Africa (MMALA) program. He highlighted the program’s core deliverables, achievements, challenges, and key lessons learned in fostering modeling leadership across the continent to date.

Hilja Eelu, MASHA PhD candidate, shared her research findings under the title: "Retaining Sustainable Malaria Elimination in the Face of Importation: A Modelling Study."

She further noted, “The symposium was a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow early-career researchers and learn how modelling is being used across the continent. The discussions around sustainability and capacity-building were especially impactful, and I received invaluable feedback and met future collaborators.”
Sena Alohoutade, also a MASHA PhD candidate, delivered an oral presentation titled: "Estimating the Potential Impact of the RTS,S/AS01 Vaccine on Malaria Control in Benin.”

Sena added that it was an opportunity to connect with esteemed researchers and leaders. Key insights from the symposium include that modelling efforts must always be grounded in local realities to inform impactful malaria control policies.
Congratulations to Sena, Hilja, and Retselisitsoe for their outstanding contributions and for representing MASHA with excellence at the MaMoD symposium.
