Prof. Chris Reason and Dr. Lynette van Schalkwyk, from the Oceanography Dept., along with 6 researchers from the Climate Research Group at Oxford University, installed the first weather station at Molopo lodge, near the border of Botswana.
Prof Babatunde Abiodun, Director of Nasen-Tutu Centre, and DST/NRF SARChI Chairholder in Ocean and Atmospheric Modelling, in the Dept. of Oceanography, UCT was inaugurated as a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAF)
Professor Marcello Vichi, head of Department of Oceanography, (UCT), delivered his first lecture as a full professor in October as part of the UCT Inaugural Lecture Series.
Associate Professor Sarah Fawcett from the Dept of Oceanography will spearhead an effort to investigate oxygen and biogeochemical dynamics along the west African margin, as the OBVI pledged US$45 million to fund research over five years.
