Resource Centre Renamed to Mathieu Rouault Resource Center (MRRC) to Honor Late Scholar.
The resource center, previously known as “LWANDLE” Oceanographic Resource Centre has been officially renamed the “Mathieu Rouault Resource Center” in a move that honors the legacy of Mathieu Rouault and signals a new chapter for the department.
The announcement of the re-opening of the center was made official on Tuesday, 27th January 2026; describing it as both a tribute to the late professor’s significant contributions and a reflection of the department’s evolving academic priorities.
Professor Rouault was widely respected for his work in oceanography and his commitment to advancing marine science research and education.

For years, the space functioned primarily as a traditional oceanography library, housing a broad collection of books, journals. However, as digital resources expanded and teaching methods evolved, the need for a dedicated physical library space diminished.
With the renaming comes a transformation in purpose. The newly designated resource center will now serve mainly as a teaching and learning environment, designed to host lectures, seminars, workshops, and collaborative academic activities. Department leaders say the shift will better support interactive learning and foster closer engagement between students and faculty.
“This is more than a name change,” a departmental representative noted. “It represents our commitment to honoring Professor Rouault’s legacy by creating a dynamic space that supports the next generation of oceanographers.”
The transition underscores the department’s broader efforts to adapt to modern educational needs while preserving the history and contributions of those who helped shape its academic foundation.
