Associate Professor Isabelle Ansorge has been appointed as the new Head of the Department of Oceanography for a five-year term commencing 1 January, 2016.

Ansorge says she is extremely excited about her promotion and together with her team of academic and support staff members is busy rejuvenating the Department. A core strength of the Department is its ability to train students at sea on board the SA Agulhas II (South Africa’s new polar research vessel), the Departments incredible ocean and biogeochemical modelling capabilities and its links to other research teams (such as CSIR, SAEON, DEA, DAFF) working in these fields. Ansorge will continue developing on the excellent work laid down by previous heads in maintaining the strength and visibility of the Oceanography Department at UCT, nationally and internationally.
