Below are a list of completed and ongoing measles and rubella projects.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

  1. Integrated Environmental Surveillance Implementation in South Africa (2025 – 2026): This project will support the formation of a South African Wastewater Modelling consortium to use mathematical modelling to assess the value of wastewater environmental surveillance to support public health response in the disease areas of measles, rubella and hepatitis A. Funder: Gates Foundation.

  2. Grand Challenges South Africa Award - Measles Rubella Risk Communication Platform (2024): This project will support the development of a predictive model to determine measles and rubella risk across the 52 districts of South Africa. The predictive model will be developed into an application for the public to be hosted by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases. Funder: South African Medical Research Council.
