My honours research uses discrete-event simulation to investigate how maternal health medicine supply chains can be improved in Liberia. The project focuses on the distribution of oxytocin and misoprostol, two essential medicines used to prevent and treat postpartum haemorrhage. By modelling the movement of medicines through the national supply chain, the study evaluates how inventory policies and operational decisions affect medicine availability at health facilities. Different supply chain strategies are tested to identify practical interventions that reduce stock-outs and improve service delivery. The findings aim to support evidence-based decision-making for strengthening maternal healthcare systems in resource-constrained settings.
