PCU year end function December 2017

On Friday 8 December 2017, the Plant Conservation Unit (PCU) celebrated a successful year with a relaxed afternoon braai in Lakeside with PCU staff, students and collaborators. We were especially glad to welcome John Watermeyer who actively contributes to our citizen science project, rePhotoSA; as well as PCU research associate Peter Carrick.
The celebrations began at 2:30 PM with a quick visit to Muizenberg main beach. Despite slight wind and a jam-packed beach, a short dip and walk along the beach was enjoyed by a few members of the team. After the walk, we headed back to the braai spot where a wonderful array of salads was made and the smells of chicken, boerewors and chops cooking on the braai filled the air. The day was so hot that a dip in the swimming pool was welcomed by everyone! And Tammy the dog provided lots of entertainment with her excited ‘zoomies’ up and down the path.

We are grateful to Zander Venter and Simon Power for braaing the meat and to Kirsten Packer and Gina Arena for helping with the salads and drinks. And thank you to Hana Petersen and Kervin Prayag for taking pictures of the day.
Overall a fun day was had by all - thank you to Timm and Sandy Hoffman for hosting us and also to Lindsey Gillson for treating us with such a special afternoon!
