Do you have historical photographs from these reserves?
A researcher in the Eastern Cape contacted the Plant Conservation Unit (PCU) team recently for historical images (prior to 21st century) of landscapes in three nature reserves (see map below) in the Nama Karoo, namely:
- Tsolwana Nature Reserve (c. 60 km south west of Queenstown & 30 km south east of Tarkastad);
- Commando Drift Nature Reserve (south of the R61 between Cradock & Tarkastad); &
- Oviston Nature Reserve (which extends from the Gariep Dam wall in the west to the Bethulie rail/road bridge in the east, & is located north east & north west of Venterstad).
The researcher would like to use the images for vegetation research and monitoring purposes in the reserves using repeat photography (in addition to other methods).
The PCU does not have images from within the relevant reserves and so we wanted to ask you (the public and citizen scientists) if you have any historical photographs from these areas.
