The Plant Conservation Unit says farewell to Sam Jack

On Friday 30 June 2017, the Plant Conservation Unit (PCU) said farewell to research assistant, Sam Jack. Sam has worked with the PCU team for the past 5 years since the completion of his Masters at the end of 2011. Among other things, Sam’s role in the PCU has been to lead data gathering efforts, expand the PCU’s repeat photograph collection and supervise student projects. Sam and his partner, Kate Watermeyer, are crossing the ocean to Australia where Kate will start a postdoc research project at the end of this month. Sam will take a little longer to get there, however, as his adventurous side has called him to buy a bicycle and cycle to Australia via Africa and Asia where he will meet up with Kate again in a year or so.
Sam’s contribution to the PCU has been immense and we will miss his enthusiasm, intellect and passion for science and the outdoors. However, we all wish him well in this new chapter in his life and to the adventures which lie ahead for him and Kate.
