Congratulations to Professor Lindsey Gillson
The Plant Conservation Unit extends hearty congratulations to our Deputy Director Lindsey Gillson on obtaining professorship!
Lindsey Gillson joined the Plant Conservation Unit and Botany Department at the University of Cape Town in 2006 as a lecturer in plant conservation biology. In 2011, within five years, Lindsey was promoted to Associate Professor, and has since been working tirelessly and expanding her research (and research group) in leaps and bounds. In this time, she has published 62 scientific papers (2006 - 2020), a book (2015), and has supervised more than twenty postgraduate students (10 Hons, 7 MSc, 7 PhD), with at least four additional postgraduate students and five post-doctoral researchers currently under her supervision. She has also received numerous awards for research from the university (UCT) and the National Research Foundation (NRF).
Lindsey received news of her promotion to professor at the end of 2020, a challenging year for everyone. Her hard work and commitment to research excellence has shone through during this time, as she increased her number of post-doctoral researchers and postgraduate students despite the difficulties of working remotely.
She thanks Professor Timm Hoffman for his mentorship and inspiration, and all of the PCU team past and present – she could not have done it without them.
Congratulations, Professor Lindsey Gillson!
