The complexities of Parkinson’s disease

Soraya Bardien is a Professor in human genetics in the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics at Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her research interest is on the genetic causes of Parkinson’s disease, which is a common neurodegenerative disorder, in the South African population. Her research team
comprises molecular geneticists, movement disorder specialists, and cell biologists focusing on Parkinson’s disease, and is the only one of its kind in sub Saharan Africa.
