The UCT Mantle Room, founded by Professor Emeritus John J. Gurney, is a collection of over 10 000 specimens that have either sampled the mantle or have value for mantle research.

Biogeochemistry Research Infrastructure Platform

BIOGRIP is directly funded by the national Department of Science and Innovation and operates at four SA universities: UCT, SUN, UFS and NWU. BIOGRIP buys equipment and pays staff to run the equipment, for research into biogeochemistry.
