Studies at the Department of Archaeology draw on UCT's unique location in southern Africa. This region is rich in fossil heritage, which provides archaeological evidence of early human life from the last half million years.

Students in the department engage with other UCT departments including anthropology, environmental and geographical science, history, geological sciences, human biology, and zoology.

Archaeology is offered as a full major in both the Humanities and Science Faculties.
