I am an astrophysicist, with a doctoral degree from The University of Chicago. I currently am employed at an aerospace company (Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp. ) where my physics and astronomy related skills are valued to build flight hardware for the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), the Department of Defence (DoD), and commercial customers. Most useful in my current job is:

  1. a broad technical background which allows me to
  2. co-ordinate and manage large teams of engineers focused on producing instruments and spacecraft.

Top level systems engineers cannot be created, but people who inherently think at the system level need to have a broad technical education to be effective.
