On 31 May 2024, the UCT Chemistry Department held a vibrant Transformation Event in celebration of Africa Month. Organised by the Transformation and Marketing Committee, the event brought together postgraduate students, academics, and PASS staff for a special Departmental Tea in the Chemistry Boardroom.

Participants were invited to share traditional African-inspired snacks, representing the diverse cultures within the department. Attendees enjoyed a variety of sweet and savoury treats, each accompanied by a brief description of its cultural origin. The event also featured traditional South African sweet treats sponsored by the department.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, guests contributed to a group art project by adding their fingerprints to an Africa Art Canvas while enjoying music playing in the background.

Special thanks go to the Ravenscroft and Edmonds-Smith Research groups for organising the paints and Africa art canvas and to all staff and students who contributed by taking the time to cook, bake, or buy something for the event. Additionally, heartfelt appreciation is extended to Laa-iqa Rylands and the Marketing Events Sub-Committee members: Dr Cesarina Edmonds-Smith, Dr Dalielah Jappie, Claire Lawrence-Naidoo, Dr Samantha Douman, and Dr Roxanne Mohunlal, for their efforts in organising and making the event a success.

In conclusion, the event was a delightful fusion of food, music, and culture, embodying the spirit of Africa Month and fostering a deeper appreciation for the continent's rich diversity.
