Chemistry Week 2025

The First-Year Teaching Labs, through the leadership of Dr Roxanne Mohunlal hosted Chemistry Week on 23, 25 and 26 September 2025. During this week the corridors on Levels 6 and 7 bustled with excitement.

Chemistry Week is an opportunity for the first-year chemistry students to tour the various research laboratories within the department. This gives them an idea of the research space and creates a connection between studying chemistry and potential real-world applications.

Senior CEM1000W demonstrators and the first-year lab staff served as tour guides where they escorted small groups of students to the various research groups. Research group members and in some cases, academics kindly shared their passion for chemistry and spoke to the students about various aspects of their research and took the students on a mini-lab tour.

Special thanks go to the following academics for showing support and graciously hosting the CEM1000W students in their labs: A/Prof Clint Veale, Prof Gregory Smith, Dr Kathryn Wicht, A/Prof Clive Oliver, Dr Siya Ngubane, Dr Marwaan Rylands and Prof Kelly Chibale (H3D).
