Africa Day Celebrations 2022
The Department of Chemistry celebrated Africa Month with a braai on Friday 27th May. A traditional boerewors roll and assortment of delicious South African desserts, expertly home-made by staff, was served.

Much-loved sweetcorn fritters
The P8 parking lot was temporarily transformed into an outside eatery where all could enjoy the event while adhering to the necessary H&S protocols. With winter still holding back, over 50 staff and students could sit and enjoy the occasion in the sun. It was lovely for people to relax and socialise and enjoy a good South African meal with their peers and colleagues. A welcome change from the last two years during which the event couldn't be celebrated in person.
A beautiful sunny day for socialising
The delicious selection of much-loved local desserts was accompanied with interesting snippets of their history displayed on a poster board for all to read.
Sago, Snowballs, Koesisters (Ultramel custard is an obligatory addition to most SA desserts, of course!)
Dadel vingers
Hertzoggies and Twee Gevreetjies
Bread pudding
Lamingtons, Carrot cake
Vermicelli
No South African occasion would be complete without melktert...
A big thank you to all the volunteers!
