Intervarsity Chemistry Quiz 2019

After a two-year hiatus, the Intervarsity SACI-RSC Quiz has returned. It was held at Stellenbosch this year and Team UCT retained its title. UCT won at the first incarnation of the event in 2016, which was held at the UCT Club.

This year’s team from UCT Chemistry, comprising Jean and Stephen (H3D), Nicole and Richard (Supramolecular Group), and Ola, Iqbal and Doaa (Hunter Group), were victorious against seven teams of students and academics from Stellenbosch. Due to student unrest, teams from CPUT and UWC were unfortunately unable to participate. Prof David Gammon compiled the questions, ranging from the Periodic Table to sport, geography and South African current affairs, and A/Prof Alan Hutton was the quiz master. Team names varied from “Space Group” to “Uncertainty Principles” and “The Element of Surprise”.
